October's Study Mix: In-Home Visits, Shop-Alongs and Multi-Phase Projects
This month's new Platinum studies lean toward in-home interviews, store shop-alongs and multi-phase online projects. Here's how each format works and how to prepare.
As of October 2026, the newest studies on the Platinum board look different from a typical month. Fewer are single online surveys, and more are formats where you meet a researcher, shop with one, or take part over several days.
In-home interviews
Several new listings are in-home studies: a small research team visits for about two hours to talk about things like furniture, work or education. They usually pay $200-$450 because they take more of your time and space.
Shop-alongs
A shop-along means a researcher joins you at a store and asks questions as you shop. Sessions are usually 30-90 minutes and pay $125-$200. Some, like this month's laptop and salty-snack studies, add a short pre-task.
Multi-phase projects
Multi-phase studies start small, for example a 5-minute video or a short phone interview, and invite some people to later phases that pay more. Only the phases you are selected for and complete are paid, so read the incentive breakdown carefully.
Online bulletin boards and diaries
Boards run for 3-7 days. You answer a few prompts each day. Log in every day: missing a day is the most common reason people lose the incentive.
